Our Programme
Structured Abacus Learning for Stronger Math Foundations
The RLC abacus programme is designed to introduce children to number concepts through hands-on practice and gradual mental visualisation. Students learn step by step, practise regularly, and progress through levels based on their learning stage.
Learning Path
Three Levels of Mastery
Every child begins at the foundation level and advances through the programme at their own pace, building skills progressively.
Foundation level
Beginners
Number concepts, bead introduction, and first mental-visualisation steps. Students learn to identify numbers on the abacus, perform basic addition and subtraction, and build familiarity with the tool.
- Number recognition and counting
- Basic addition and subtraction
- Bead manipulation
- Finger movement techniques
Building speed
Intermediate
Regular arithmetic practice, worksheets, and improving speed and accuracy. Students transition from physical abacus to mental visualisation while tackling more complex operations.
- Multi-digit addition and subtraction
- Mental visualisation practice
- Speed drills and timed exercises
- Word problem solving
Mental mastery
Advanced
Mental calculation without the physical abacus, higher-order number operations, and competition-level speed. Students perform complex arithmetic entirely in their mind.
- Full mental calculation
- Multiplication and division
- Decimal and fraction operations
- Competition preparation

How We Teach
A Proven Approach to Mental Math
At RLC, we follow a structured, step-by-step teaching methodology that combines hands-on abacus practice with mental visualisation techniques. Our instructors guide each student through carefully designed exercises that build both speed and understanding.
Hands-on Learning
Children start with a physical abacus, learning bead movements and number concepts through tactile practice.
Mental Visualisation
As students progress, they learn to visualise the abacus in their mind, performing calculations without the physical tool.
Regular Assessment
Progress is tracked through level-based assessments, practice worksheets, and parent updates.
Positive Reinforcement
We celebrate every milestone, building confidence and a genuine love for numbers.
Visualising the Abacus
Students learn to “see” the abacus in their mind, performing calculations with speed and accuracy.
